Supply chain issues have been affecting the book printing industry, and we need to post an update about the current situation. Keep in mind, that the “current situation” is always changing at this time. The best thing to do is to be aware of the situation and communicate early and often with Marathon to plan for your book printing needs.
Marathon Press sources materials such as binder’s boards and paper from multiple vendors to help making sure we have the inventory needed when a project comes in.
We are running into some delays with interior papers such as 100 lb Matte ( Silk or Dull) coated white stock has been limited and in some cases, “allocated” which means we can only order a certain amount per month. The supply is currently no longer unlimited!
Binder’s board is ordered precisely cut from the mill on most custom book projects. In the past what would arrive in 4-5 days after being ordered is now stretching out as much as 4 weeks!
These supply chain issues are making scheduling new projects very difficult to set deadlines with total accuracy.
Once an order is confirmed in terms of page size, page count and order quantity, we will order materials and advise what we are finding out on availability and timing. We are not currently able to preschedule or reserve paper for upcoming print runs until the order is actually ready to go. Prices of paper have increased and further increases are expected. We generally honor all quotes for 90 days, or more. But under current market conditions we reserve the right to change pricing after 30 days.
